When you complete an operation on your manufacturing floor, you record it in Kenandy. All work orders have at least one operation, and recording the full quantity for the last operation in a work order is how you complete that work order in Kenandy.
Recording an operation includes:
After you've released a work order, managed and adjusted materials and operations if needed, allocated and kitted components, it's time to start recording operations for your work order.
All released work orders include at least one operation. If the item specification attached to this work order doesn't have routings, Kenandy generates one operation for the whole work order.
If the item specification has routings, Kenandy generates one operation for each routing. The work order has the same number of operations as there are routings on the item specification.
You can add or delete operation to a work order directly if you need to. To learn more, see Work Order Materials and Operation Tracking.
You must record the full quantity for the last operation in a work order to complete that work order.
To learn more about the fields on this page, read Record Operations Field Descriptions.
Important: If you don't click Populate Component Quantities, you must add the quantity for each component you want to issue in the Component Issue and Issue from WIP tabs.
Kenandy does the following:
To learn more about inventory changes and inventory transactions created when you record operations, read the Work Order Accounting section of Work Orders.
If you've recorded the full quantity for the last operation in the work order, the work order is marked as Complete.
You can close any work order after you've recorded at least one operation against it.
If you've recorded any other operation other than the last one, keep recording operations as they're finished until you reach the last one. The work order is marked In Process until you record the full quantity for the last operation.
The following table lists the fields that Kenandy provides. Your system administrator selects the fields that are displayed on your user interface.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Action |
Click Populate Component Quantities to automatically enter Quantity to Issue for all the components you used in this operation. Kenandy populates the Quantity Required for each component into the Quantity to Issue field. This quantity equals the Quantity Required from the item specification times the Order Quantity in the work order header. |
| Bin |
The bin where you store the finished assemblies you're recording in this operation. You must enter a Bin if the Complete To location is bin-tracked for this work order. |
| Hours | The number of hours spent working on this operation. |
|
Item Attributes (Lot, Color, etc) |
Enter these if they're tracked for this assembly item. If the Item Attribute includes Date Received, Kenandy populates it with today's date. You can change this date if the actual Date Received isn't today. |
| Packaging UOM |
The UOM you use to keep track of this item in your warehouse. For example, if you make t-shirts and pack them into cases for storage in your warehouse, enter CS (case) into Packaging UOM for a work order for t-shirts. |
| Quantity to Complete |
The number of assembly items you want to record this operation for. |
| Quantity to Scrap | The number of assembly items you want to scrap while recording this operation. |
| Scrap Bin | You must enter a Scrap Bin, if Scrap Location for this assembly is bin-tracked and you're scrapping at least one assembly. |
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Action | If you serial-track this component, click Serials to enter the serial numbers for this component that you're recording for this work order. |
| Bin |
The bin where this component is stored (where you pick this component from). If this field is blank, it's not tracked for this component. |
| Consigned Owner |
If this field is populated, this component has a consigned owner. That is, your supplier owned this component but after it's used in a work order its ownership transfers to you unless it's rental inventory. If this field is blank, it's not tracked for this component. |
| Custom item attributes, such as color, size, shape |
Item attributes you can use to identify the component you're issuing to this work order. If these fields are blank, they aren't tracked for this component. |
| Date Received |
The date you received this component if you purchased it. If this field is blank, it's not tracked for this component. |
| Expiration Date |
The date this component expires and you can't use it in work orders. If this field is blank, it's not tracked for this component. |
| Item |
A backflush component item you need to record for this operation of this work order. Click the Item name to see its item record. |
| Location |
The Location in your facility where this component is stored (where you pick it from when it's time to use it). The Location comes from the Item record for this component. |
| Lot Number |
The lot number of this component, if this component is tracked by lot. If this field is blank, it's not tracked for this component. |

| Quantity Allocated |
The number of this component that you've allocated to this work order. This value comes from the Allocate page you access from Work Order Detail. |
| Quantity Available |
The amount of this component that is available to issue. The Quantity Available equals the quantity of this component you have on hand minus the quantity of this component allocated for other uses. If you allocated this component to this work order, only the quantity you allocated shows as Quantity Available. |
| Quantity Completed | Valid only for Byproducts. |
| Quantity Issued |
The amount of this component that's been issued to this work order. The Quantity Issued changes when you enter a quantity in the Quantity to Issue field and save this operation record. |
| Quantity Required |
The number of this component needed to complete this work order. The Quantity Required equals the number of components required by the item specification times the Order Quantity specified in the work order. |
| Quantity Scrapped |
The number of this component that you've recorded as scrapped by or in this work order. |
| Quantity Short |
The number of this component that needs to be issued to complete this work order. The Quantity Short is equal to the Quantity Required minus the Quantity Issued. |
| Quantity to Issue |
The amount of this component you want to issue. Click Populate Component Quantities to auto-populate the Quantity Required for the work order into this field. Or you can enter a value into this field by hand. Kenandy enters the Quantity to Issue into the Component Issue and Issue from WIP inventory transactions it generates when you save this record. |
| Quantity to Scrap |
The amount of this component you want to record as scrap. The component is moved from Stock to the MRB (Scrap) location on the work order. This creates an inventory transaction of type Work Order Component Scrap. |
| Quantity Used |
The number of this component that you've recorded as used by an operation. Backflush components are automatically recorded as used when you issue them. [See Material Tracking topic for a better description of this] |
| Rental |
Tells you whether or not this component is flagged as rental inventory—that is, this component can only be rented, not sold. If this field is blank, it's not tracked for this component. |
| Used |
Tells you whether or not this component is used. If this field is blank, it's not tracked for this component. |
| Field | Description |
