You create budgets to monitor the financial performance of a company. You can include budget amounts in the balance sheet or income statement for the company. These financial statements show the difference between actual amounts and budget amounts.
You create a budget for a company. In each company budget, you can create budget lines that apply to a period, a GL account, and an intercompany accounting segment. If you use custom accounting segments, such as departments, cost centers, and facilities, you can add those accounting segments to budget lines.

Before you create budgets, verify the following items are created:
Before you begin, you must make sure periods are created. You create budgets by period, and not by quarter or year. You must also make sure the Include in Budgets checkbox is selected for the GL accounts that you want to include in the budget.
Although you must enter a value in the Budget Name field, this value is automatically overwritten, when you save the record, with a unique budget identifier, and you cannot change this default value.
To learn more about the Budget fields, see Budget Field Descriptions.
All GL accounts for the company are available for budget lines. You can delete and re-add these lines, but you cannot add lines for GL accounts that do not have the Include in Budgets checkbox selected.
To learn more about the Budget Line fields, see Budget Line Field Descriptions.
After you create budgets, you might run the Budget Listing report. To learn more, see Kenandy Analytics.
You can import budget data from a comma-separated value (CSV) file into a budget record in Kenandy. This CSV file must contain a column that includes the names of the GL accounts, columns that include the names for each custom segment (one column for each custom segment), and columns that include the values for each period (one column for each period).
If you import budget data into a budget record that already includes budget lines, the lines for existing budget are overwritten with the lines for the same GL account, custom segment, and period in the CSV file. Any new lines are imported into the budget record.
You can use the Kenandy Data Loader tool, such as Apex Data Loader or Workbench, to import budget data from an Excel file into Kenandy. To use this tool, you must install the KDOC package. Also, you can use the Import Wizard to import bank transactions from an Excel file into Kenandy. A Budget Data Template is available from the Kenandy Community.
Although cumulative amounts in GL accounts are reflected on the balance sheet, the incremental or decremental budget amounts by period for these GL accounts are included in the CSV file.
Any errors that occur during the upload process are displayed on the Import Budget Lines page.
The following table lists the fields that Kenandy provides. Your system administrator selects the fields that are displayed on your user interface.

The period for which the budget is first in effect. This period can have any status (for example, Open or Closed). The periods included in the period range you specify in this field and the Budget To field are available for selection when you create the budget lines. The period for which the budget is last in effect. This period can have any status (for example, Open or Closed). The periods included in the period range you specify in this field and the Budget From field are available for selection when you create the budget lines. If you do not specify a value in this field and the Budget From field, then all periods for the company are available for selection when you create the budget lines. |
| Company | The company for the budget. |
| Current Working Project |
An indication of whether the budget is the primary budget for the company. You can create multiple budgets for a company to show different business scenarios, but only one budget can be the primary budget.
