EXPLORING
SIBIU
ABOUT SIBIU
What is your overall experience of Sibiu?
It’s a very interesting city, withmany activities and
many tourist attractions. Thosewho have never
been to Sibiuwill discover what a vibrant, diverse
place it is, and it’s full of surprises. Sibiu is a city
where you can never get bored.
What’s important to know about the region?
In 2007, Sibiuwas pairedwith Luxembourg as the
European Capital of Culture. It was the first city in
Southeast Europe to get this title. The city of Sibiu
is a city of firsts. It was the first city in Romania to
get a hospital, library, school, pharmacy, book store,
theatre building, museum andmore.
What do you like to do to unwind on your days off?
In summer, I like going off-roading by bike to the
villages surrounding the city or simplywalking
in the parks. Inwinter, I go to the Transylvanian
mountain resort of Paltinis.
Where do youmeet friends on an evening out?
In themedieval city centre – it has a special charm
and plenty of bars to try.
Where’s best to go for culture?
The Brukenthal National Museum
has one of themost important art
collections in the country, a real
treat for art enthusiasts.
Best food to try in the region?
If you’re looking for an authentic
taste of Romanian food, go to
Crama Sibiul Vechi. The atmosphere
in this restaurant is rustic, and they
serve the best grilled trout in Sibiu,
plus sausage stew that comes in a
traditional clay pot.
