If you’re flying in or out of…
Dubai International (DXB)
A FEW
THINGS TO
DO BEFORE
YOUR
FLIGHT
Have enough cash in
the local currency, so you
don’t have to look for
an ATM machine just
for cab fare and food
when you get to your
destination.
Inform the credit card
company when and
where you’ll be traveling.
Then make copies of
your credit cards and
leave them with a family
member.
Write down the
embassy’s address and
contact details, and have
it with you. Take note
of the airline, hotel and
credit card company’s
too. You can photocopy
or email the list to a
family member.
If you’re going to a
country where English
is not widely spoken,
remember key phrases.
Have them in your
notebook or phone.
Check your documents
and IDs to see if they’re
close to expiring. If they
are, renew them before
you go.
Charge your phone and
other devices.
Keep yourself hydrated
and your water bottle
filled. Avoid caffeine and
alcohol.
Wear accessories or
clothes that you can
easily put on and take off.
Dubai welcomed over 70
million international passengers
in 2014 — 6% increase on the
previous year. And the figures
are expected to rise even
higher: by mid-2015, 30 million
people had already passed
through the airport’s doors.
But the international
airport is more than able to
accommodate everyone
with its three state-of-the-art
terminals and facilities. And
given the volume of traffic,
they’ve made transportation
easy, especially for female and
kiddie travelers.
• There are official taxi ranks
at each terminal. Ladies can
even opt for female-driven
cabs — they’re the ones with
the pink roofs.
• The metro can take you
from Terminal 1 to 3. Women
with children can hop on a
special carriage allotted just for
them. For tickets and a top-up
Nol Card, head to the airport
stations.
• Note that the metro begins
its service between Terminal 1
and 3 before 6am, except on
Fridays. If you happen to be at
the airport on a Friday before
1pm, you can get on the free
24-hour shuttle bus instead.
• Nol Cards are used on
buses to the city, so be sure to
purchase one.
