“Normally, I takeabout 300 to 500
images per shot,” says Reugels. He
uses awooden scaffolding, shown
below, with a valve to control the
dropshewillphotograph. Thebowl
on the table iswhere thedropswill
collide to form the shapes,and the
frostedglass behind thebowl acts
asadiffuser. Reugelsconsiders the
prepwork of setting the light and
choosing the colors for each shot
to be of vital importance. “Every
session is a new adventure, and
the settings from previous series
must be changed,” he says. “The
viscosity, thewater temperature…
thereare somanyparameters that
influence the results that nophoto
canbeexactly reproduced.”
