Because of the perceived high prices of addiction treatment, only a very small portion of those who need it pursue treatment. Although rehab's cost is minimal, it is still much less than the social and health costs that could be incurred if you choose to avoid treatment. These consequences can be prevented by getting treatment now.

Millions of Americans suffer from addiction every day. A 2016 U.S. surgeon general report estimated that nearly 21 million Americans have a substance abuse disorder. Only 10% receive substance abuse treatment.

Why? This is partly because of the cost. A staggering 40% of Americans with a substance misuse disorder who needed treatment between 2011 and 2014 did not go to rehab because it was too expensive or they didn't have any insurance.

The cost to treat addiction is significantly lower than that of treatment. People don't realize the fact that insurance can dramatically reduce rehab costs. New laws require that insurance companies cover treatment for mental illness and addiction.

How much does rehab cost?

There are many levels of care at addiction centers throughout the country. Prices vary for each one. People with more severe drug use disorders are likely to require more intensive and longer-term treatment. Standard treatment is generally more expensive than intensive care.
