Optimize your websites URL and page titles

The title that appears in the Google Search Engine Results Page (SERP) is very important. It should contain the keywords you want your page to score highly for as well as grabbing the attention of potential visitors. Recent research has shown that the location of the most important keywords in your title may have an affect on your position on the Search Engine Result Page. Look at the example below. I searched for the term IPA beer. The website with the word IPA at the beginning of the title is in the number one position. The website in the second position has the word IPA in the middle and the one in the third position has it near the end. Each one of these websites has the same amount of incoming links and good quality pages. I have seen this happen time and time again when I have done other searches. The lesson from this example is place your most important keywords at the beginning of your title. The Title section I am talking about is the hidden title on your page. In your page's code you will find it at the top between <head> and </head>. Enter your title between the tags that say <title> and </title>

Recent studies have shown that it is better to have your keywords at the begining of the page title

Google recognizes a dash - as a space between words. You should use a dash when naming images, website pages and in your website address, your URL. Why is this important? Well Google tries to match up the words entered into the Google search box with the ones on a website. No one is going to enter McGregoraccountants into the search box. The will type McGregor accountants, two separate words. If McGregor accountants website address is www.McGregor-accountants.com that would be a direct match. If their website address was www.McGregoraccountants.com then the site would not be found. Google views McGregoraccountants as a totally different word.

Use dashes to seperate words in your website address
