How to use a keyword research tool

To succeed in optimizing your website pages you need to become an expert in using a keyword research tool. There are a number of them available. Some you have to pay for. Others like the Google Keyword Planner are available if your join their Adwords program. At the moment you do not have to spend any money running adverts to use this great tool. You just log in and then enter the topic your page is about and it will show you what similar words and combination of words the public have been using on Google during the previous month. This enables you to write about the topics they are searching for.

Whilst I was at my accountant's office he mentioned that he was going to change his company name because his partner had retired. He wanted to call it McGregor-accountancy. I explained how to use the Google keyword planner. When he entered the word Accountancy it showed that 1,600 people locally had searched for that word last month. He seemed happy with that. I then drew his attention to lower down in the results page. The word Accountant received 18,100 searches and the word Accounting received 40,500 searches. His company is now called McGregor Accounting. You can use this tool to research what the best words to use on your website page.

Many companies have the same problem. When they sell multiple similar products, how do they write product descriptions without using the same text again and again? After the Google Panda search engine algorithm update each website page should have 3-4 paragraphs of text as a minimum, roughly 300-500 words. I was giving some advice to a Welsh beef farmer who sold beef sausages. When I told him of these new requirements his face fell. I sell six types of beef sausages. That means I have to write six different articles on each product page. They are beef sausages. How much can you say about beef sausages? This is going to be very hard to do. I then showed him the Google Keyword Planner. He entered the words beef sausage and clicked the search button. What we found was that people were searching Google asking for recipe ideas using beef sausages. The farmers face was now full of smiles. Well that is easy isn't it. I will just write some recipes and to give them a unique twist, so they stand out, I will use traditionally Welsh recipes.
