The external route is the path an item takes when being transported from one MRP Area to another MRP Area outside the consuming plant. Each route has a unique route number and route ID. The route ID is the unique identifier usually supplied by the customer. The route number is used strictly by the application software and is generated automatically for the user. External routes are then selected while defining item supplying MRP area records.
After planned shipments have been determined, routes can be planned to minimize transportation costs while still meeting the required delivery times. Route details can be imported from a transport management system and used by the PFEP application to calculate a item's total lead time from suppliers for example.
To access the transport route details:
Using the Advanced menu, click Item Tracking > Routes.
