Franz Josef to Lake Moeraki

Robert on another one-lane bridge

Most motorists were pretty friendly
(save for one impatient idiot behind
us on a one-lane bridge)

Robert at Bruce Bay ("mind if I call
you Bruce?") on the Tasman Sea

Liza enjoying her "flat white"
(a no-foam latte, more or less)
at the Salmon Farm & Café

Words to live by!

Lunch at the Salmon Farm

Lake Moeraki Wilderness Lodge

We opted for a "rest day" guided
walk that took us to a secluded
cove where we could see the
crested penguins (see the birds
page linked below for photos)

Robert and Liza on the beach

Robert and guide Michael

On the beach

Robert watching for the penguins'
return

Walking up from the beach

English Foxglove (introduced,
of course)

Giant Rimu tree

Tree ferns

Flowers on a fallen log

Crossing the stream

Rhododendrons

Liza at Monro Beach, Tasman Sea

Tree fuchsia - looks and acts
like Gumbo Limbo (Bursera sp)
in the neotropics

Found it interesting that all the ferns
always had two leaves pointing
"backwards"
