An up and coming trend in on-line technologies is the use of TV like channels with similar content to specialist cable TV channels. Why is MSN, along with other services, positioning itself as a content provider with channels?

A lot of people still haven't got their heads round the Net and web culture. They are so used to the old fashioned paradigms that innovating and trying something different and new is too much for them. Can I suggest that they read our Vision Special. Being different isn't that hard.

The other part of it is that there is a great deal of hype being generated by those companies with Internet broadcasting technologies. Why are they bothering? There is already a fast, efficient, cheap and widespread infrastrucutre of terrestial, cable and sattelite TV to satiate all our broadcasting desires. Not only does moving such content on the Net slow things down but it also risks the core of the Net's existence. Web designers are already hitting a moving target with all the other new developments, don't burden them and their users with more junk.

If some of the large TV suppliers muscle in we could all end up "watching the Net" (and I don't mean the movie). The beauty of the Web and the Net as a whole is the interactivity. Web-based TV kills that, we don't more couch potatoes. So resist the hype and interact!
