I've always felt that the ultimate objective of interface designers was for the interface to become transparent, so that you used it without thinking. I still think that's true to an extent, but you could even take things one step further. Make the interface obviously there by doing one of two things.

Firstly you could give the interface a personality, a 'presence'. So you could chat with it, have preferences which it 'remembers' and friendly reminders and so on... The possibilities have been explored many times before so I won't bore you.

The second alternative is to give the interface a certain style. Make it cool and interesting to use. Let designers have fun with it. Pick your own interface to suit your lifestyle and tastes, like a perfume. Each designer will have a certain reputation. You have a whole industry blossoming like the fashion industry, but this time haute-software instead of haute-couture! Buy an interface and you'll see it everywhere you go, on your PDA, your home computer, cash machine and more. Pick a new one every year if you want or stick to the same one for a life-time.

Sounds cool doesn't it? Well go do it then!
