Running Memory Chomping Games with Win'95
Firstly if they are not very memory chomping then you can edit the file 'DOSSTART.BAT' in the windows directory, and add any files that need running (i.e. mouse driver's or MSCDEX) then just goto, Start, Shutdown, Restart in MSDOS mode.
Need More??
If it is more memory chomping than that (which most games are) you will have to create a 'shortcut' to the game program file (or COMMAND.COM, and then run your games from the DOS prompt, which is what I do).
To do this follow the following instructions:
Create a shortcut (by right clicking on the desktop, going to the 'new' menu option, and then clicking on 'shortcut') and typing:
C:\COMMAND.COM In the box labeled command line which comes up. Click 'Next' Then 'Finish'.
Now it should have created an icon on your desktop. Right click on the icon and select the 'properties' menu option. In the box that comes up click on the 'Program' tab and then on the 'Advanced' button. In the new box, make sure the 'MS-DOS Mode' tick box is checked and select 'Specify a new MS-DOS configuration'. Now type in the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT settings you want for yor game.
Som'in else:
If your looking for some simple ping, and trace route utils, some DOS baced ones come with Win'95 as standard. The two file names are (both in the windows directory):
PING.EXE - The Ping program
TRACERT.EXE - The treceroot Program.
