There were many factors, but there is just one I want to study this week. Community.
Many of the companies that formed the revolution were born out of a community that was known as the Homegrown Computer Club. Here people would regularly meet to exchange, discuss and show off ideas. People would share solutions to the problems they found without thought. It was a melting pot of creativity and discovery.
Everyone was still in sixties hippy mode and so were out to save the world and generally do good. From this environment of sharing, friendly rivalry and high-paced interaction with the brightest minds around our digital future was born.
We are the inheritors of this legacy. What will we achieve? See Part 2.
