READY FOR RED
If you’re headed to France this month, be sure to bring
a corkscrew, because the third Thursday of November is
Beaujolais Nouveau Day, when, under French law, the year’s
newBeaujolais Nouveaus are released at 12:01 a.m., just weeks
a er the Gamay grapes that go into this highly drinkable
varietal have been harvested. The wine originated roughly
a century ago, as an inexpensive way for locals of the Beau-
jolais region to celebrate the end of harvest season. Today,
oenophiles across France use it as an opportunity to
celebrate the first wine of the seasonwith sidewalk
parties and picnics. If you plan to a end, you’ll need
more than just that corkscrew: You’ll want to
make sure you have the right clothes and
accessories, too.
