Why do you love it here?
“Pedregalejo is like a little Venice, but
without the water. It’s a barrio full of
alleys that take you right out to little
coves and fishermen’s huts. The area
is always full of people: locals and
tourists. It’s easy to find well-known
faces here, too – actors, musicians and
sports people.
“It’s not just the beach – I would
recommend any of the fish restaurants
here as well, especially El Morata
(+34
952 202 645)
and Miguelito el Cariñoso
(+34 952 299 443)
.”

What’s on the menu?
“The
pescaíto
[fried fish],
boquerones
[unsalted anchovies] and prawns with
honey are fantastic. The typical dish
here is
espetos
[sardines grilled on a
wood-burning stove and served on
skewers]. Ask for the ones that aren’t
too big, because they have a better
flavour, or let the waiters advise you
what fish were caught the day before.”
What keeps you coming back?
“The smell of salt and jasmine, the
light, the flavours, fishermen’s huts and
boats on the sand... It’s all inspired me
in my day-to-day life and in my work.
It’s part of my roots.”
