CHEAT ON YOUR DETOX
For those going dry in January, Cancer
Research has come up with a canny way
to get money for your slip-ups. The
charity’s ‘Dryathletes’ pay £20 for the
privilege of taking a night off the wagon,
without forfeiting the challenge. Sneaky.

“His office is
crammed full of
books, bicycles,
cameras, rabbits
and robots – things
he has picked up on
his travels. He says
these things can
inspire a collection.”
The print
“He was one of the
first designers to
print photographs
on fabric, and his
imagery has ranged
from apples, flowers,
clouds, kittens,
jellyfish, to a plate of
plastic spaghetti.”
The partnership
“Paul Smith finds
collaborations
stimulating and
challenging. One of
his first was in 1998
with Rover on a Mini.
Since then, there
have been rugs,
cameras and more.”

SAY HELLO
TO PAUL SMITH
He’s the godfather of quirky British
tailoring, purveyor of some rather iconic
stripes and possibly the nicest guy in
fashion, but what makes Paul Smith tick?
That’s what the latest exhibition at
London’s Design Museum sets out to
discover. Marking 40 years since the
designer started out,
Hello, My Name
is Paul Smith
charts his rise from tiny
premises in Nottingham to global brand.
This is more than just a retrospective.
By offering access to Sir Paul’s personal
archive, including art works and sketches,
it aims to explore his creative process
– even recreating the interior of his
wonderfully messy Covent Garden office.
Now if that doesn’t inspire, we don’t know
what will...
Fly to London.
