It took eight months
to develop the first
prototype bag
The idea of providing delicious coffee without the hassle
of any equipment particularly appealed to us, so that’s
why we approached Carrie last year. After months of
development, last October we proudly launched Little
Bag Coffee Company products on board our aircraft in three
unique easyJet blends: regular, decaf and espresso.
Not only does this mean we can now offer real ground
coffee in an easy-to-use disposable cup to customers on our
flights but, because it’s up to the passenger how long they
leave the bag in, they can even control how strong it is –
something that has never been the case before on airplanes.
It would be logical to conclude that Carrie is a seasoned
inventor, but this was actually the first time the mother of
four from Shropshire has done anything like this. “Before
having the idea, I actually worked in a local school,” she says.
“I have never invented anything. However, I have had a whole
string of different ideas in the past and then kicked myself
when they have appeared in the shops not long after.”
And it’s not just a great idea. The Little Bag Coffee
Company is also committed to giving something back.
Working together with Wolverhampton Grammar School,
it supports coffee growers in Uganda, donating 10% of its
profits to a charity they set up.
We already know that passengers are enjoying the coffee,
but there’s one question we haven’t asked: how does Carrie’s
husband find it? “He absolutely loves it now,” she reveals.
“He takes it everywhere with him.”
