When did you start coming here?
“I’ve been coming to this restaurant
since it opened – about two-and-a-half
years ago. It’s on the second floor of
the small market that overlooks the
old port, which was established in the
1920s and totally renovated five
years ago. It’s won many awards
for architecture and is one of the
best ports in the world in my opinion.
The restaurant has one of the best
views, over the sea.”
What’s the appeal?
“The market is small and sells the
usual kind of things – fresh vegetables,
meat, fish. This restaurant gets its
produce from the market. It has a great
chef, and there are views of the market
on one side and over the port on the
other. It’s a great place to sit – there’s
good food, views and atmosphere –
and they play great music too.”
Who comes here?
“Everybody comes here – literally
everybody. Young people love it as
much as old, because it’s good value
and welcoming. The prices are average
to medium. For example, a business
lunch is probably 30ILS [€6.33],
or dinner might be 40ILS [€8.42].”
What do you order?
“The market as a whole is inspired
by Barcelona, so Kitchen Market
mostly does tapas, but it also does
excellent chicken. I come here about
twice a month for dinner and twice a
month just for a drink, and to have
some tapas and enjoy looking out
over the sea. Its desserts are fabulous
too. The chocolate millefeuille is good
or there’s this dish made with the shells
of oysters that have chocolate inside.
It’s really great.”
What keeps you coming back?
“The whole deal: the market, sea view,
atmosphere… And there’s a good Israeli
wine list too.”
