WHAT
FRANZ JOSEF STRAUSS AIRPORT, MUNICH
BUILT
2004
As one might expect from the city that produced the
elite engineering of BMW, Munich’s Airport Centre has
an efficiently excecuted answer to airport planning.
Designed by Helmut Jahn, who also created Bangkok’s
dramatic Suvarnabhumi Airport, the airport’s massive,
vaulted glass roof overlays a central courtyard,
combining terminals 1 and 2 into a unique space with
generous civic character, reminiscent of grand, 19th-
century railway terminals.
