One of Kefalonia’s prettiest spots and if you arrive
from the sea, it’s one of the best way to get glimpses of
how the island looked before the devastating 1953
earthquake. Dinky shoebox houses huddle on the hillside
overlooking the harbour and you’ll find remnants of a
once-grand Italianate villa just off themain square. It even
has its own ruined castle. Assos also has Platanos, a friendly,
family-run taverna that’s not to bemissed. Almost
everything you eat (and drink) here is grown on the owner
Panos’s land. It’s Greek cuisine at its best – simple, but
spectacularly tasty. Try the
gourounopoulo
: spit-roasted
suckling pig – absolutely delicious.
Ithaca

This islandmay be amere 30-minute ride from
Fiscardo, but the difference could not bemore
pronounced. Where the Fiscardo seafront brims with
colourful shopfronts, Ithaca is wild and untamed. Look out
for the beach on the way to themain harbour. Hidden
behind an outcrop of rock, this tiny bay is only accessible by
boat. Moor up, pop open a bottle of bubbly and relax. Then
on to Polyphemus (

) in the village of
Stavros. The
CaptainCorelli
cast’s favourite restaurant, this
leafy garden filled with wooden furniture and hanging
lanterns offers amore sophisticated take on taverna cooking
that you simply won’t find anywhere else.

the island providing bareboat rental of full-size, ocean-going powerboats.

Boulevard Boat Hire Agia Efimia

Fiscardo Boat Hire
