Touring the beaches
Hotel Club du Lac Tanganyika
on the
banks of the eponymous lake has the
wellbeing of its guests at heart with
many beach facilities. On weekends
rows of lounge chairs are set up for
visitors. Several beach-volley courts
are available for guests who prefer
some exercise, with a professional
trainer on hand on Sunday mornings.

Airport lies 11km from the city centre.
It’s a relatively hassle-free experience
to get into town: just be sure to use an
official taxi, which should cost around
BIF 15,000 (€8.40).

L’aéroport international de
Bujumbura se situe à 11km du centre de
la ville. La plupart du temps, on accède sans
encombre dans la ville, mais assurez-vous
toutefois de prendre un taxi officiel dont le
prix tourne autour de 15000 BIF (8,40 €).

op het strand.

Staat op toerismegebied, promoot de
rijkdommen van het land. Zo worden
er regelmatig demonstraties ingericht

”.

Kachikally crocodiles
Visit the
Kachikally Pool
in Bakau to
get up close to the 80 or so crocodiles
that live there. Traditionally used for
fertility rituals, the pool has now
become rather commercialised, but
there is a good museum on The
Gambia’s history and heritage with
some great exhibits.
Watch some wrestling
Traditional wrestling is a popular sport
in The Gambia. Muscles, mysticism and
mad drumming combine to conjure an
intoxicating atmosphere. Tournaments
happen regularly but you need to be in
the know. Local promoter Musa at
Sanchaba United Gym

tell you if there is a bout coming up

Yundum International Airport
is around 24km south of Banjul and 15km
from the nearest beach resorts. Green
‘
tourist taxis’ charge around GMD 800 (€20)
to Banjul and GMD 600 (€15) to the resorts.
Crocodiles de Kachikally

Bakau, peuplé de quelque 80 crocodiles.
Ce bassin, qui servait autrefois aux
rituels de fertilité, a aujourd’hui une
vocation plus commerciale. On y
trouve cependant un bon musée sur
l’histoire et le patrimoine de la Gambie,
avec de superbes expositions.
Assistez à un combat
La lutte traditionnelle est un des sports
les plus populaires de la Gambie.
Combats musclés, mysticisme et
rythmes fous des tambours s’unissent
pour créer une atmosphère exaltante.

L’aéroport international de

la plus proche. Les
taxis de touristes

GMD (20 €) à destination des plages et
de 600 GMD (15 €) jusqu’à Banjul.

in Bakau en sta oog in oog met een
van de 80 krokodillen die hier leven.
Dit zwembad werd ooit gebruikt voor
vruchtbaarheidsdoeleinden, maar
wordt vandaag vooral om commerciële
redenen uitgebaat. Er is daarentegen
wel een interessant museum
gevestigd over het erfgoed van
Gambia waar een aantal uitstekende
tentoonstellingen lopen.
Doe het eens met
een worstelaar
Traditioneel worstelen is een
populaire sport in Gambia. Spieren,
mystiek en wilde drums zorgen voor
een bedwelmende sfeer. Er worden
regelmatig toernooien georganiseerd
maar u moet er weet van hebben.
