When we first started working on the National Tourism Plan for
2014, we considered the concept of El Salvador as a business center
for Central America.We realized that the country was much more
than this so we moved towards the concept of El Salvador as the
“Meeting Point of CentralAmerica.”Todaywe perceive the idea of the
meeting point as a key strategy for sustainable tourism development
in the country.
TheNationalTourism Plan clearly defines the vision andmission of
El Salvador’s tourism sector. El Salvador is striving tobecome themain
destination for businessmeetings, family vacations aswell an exchange
center between cultures, sports and religion.
Among themain reasons we support this plan is that the country
has a wide range of services, investment and economic infrastructure
projects. It is also worth noting that according to many international
publications we have one of the best beaches in theworld for sports
such as surfing.
An important additional fact is that Salvadorans have strong and
friendly ties withmany nations in theworld.
Todate the country hasmanaged toposition itself as an important
destination for regional and Latin American meetings, having already
hosted a number of different events. Indeed, in November 2008 El
Salvador hosted the XVIII Ibero-American Summit of Presidents and
Heads of State.
Our international airport is the largest andmostmodern inCentral
America, which together with our favorable geographic position,
makes us thebridge betweenNorth,Central andSouthAmerica.We
have the most modern road network in Central America and right
now are constructing the port of La Union, which will be the largest
in the Pacific Central American isthmus.
We have the best telephone network in the area. We have a
dollarized economy, freedom and security to invest and one of the
best banking systems in LatinAmerica. Along with Chile andMexico,
El Salvador forms thegroupof nations ratedwith thehighest investment
grade.Our economy is among the first and healthiest of the continent.
The hotel network has modern facilities suitable for hosting major
events, and we also offer a wide variety of accommodations for every
taste.We have hotels in themountains, by rivers, lakes or beaches.Our
richheritage includes the legacyof theMayan cultureand theSalvadoran
cuisine is becoming increasingly known at an international level.
We are promoting our country as the main tourist destination in
the region because we offer beauty coupled with an excellent
infrastructure to receive visitors, and the desire tomake them feel at
home because tourism touches all of us and is the task of all.
