that they have a great demand for their services. Latest project to open is their new three
story, 18,000 sq. ft. classroom building following which they promptly announced the ground
breaking for an 11,000 sq. ft. multi-purpose community center featuring a basketball court and
some meeting rooms. Baskervill is the architect on this one, with Timmons doing the engineer-ing,

Ashland's Cross Brothers Market, which the locals had feared might close, instead changes
hands, remodels, and re-launches, leaving that bit of history intact right there on the RR tracks in
the Heart of the Universe.
The green movement rolls on as California becomes the first state to mandate solar panels on
new residential construction two years from now.
And so does the march toward the driverless car with another change to be considered cropping
up as its contended that space devoted to parking lots and decks will be made unnecessary
since on-demand robot ride services will be providing shared vehicles that won't park, but will
require much larger drop off and pick up areas. You must forgive me if I'm a little skeptical on
some of these predictions, as I remember back to one of our very first Chapter Meetings in the
early 80's which was titled “The Paperless Office”. It hasn't happened yet and what do I see be-ing
recommended now for the security of our elections? Paper Ballots! Now that's real progress
for you.
A couple of items in closing from my interest area of Bicycle & Pedestrian Advocacy. You may
have noticed that the new bike lanes (and attendant confusion over the new parking scheme)
are now in operation on Franklin St. between Belvidere and Ninth. And something we bike advo-cates
had been working on for even longer. You can now put your bike on the AmTrak train at
Main St. Station (to take it down to Williamsburg so you can ride back on the Capital Trail, or to
take it with you to any of the stops north of here). Only capacity for 12 bikes per train, and an ad-ditional
charge of $20 per bike but it represents real progress, and AmTrak has followed that up
by stating that they will roll out similar service on all trains nationwide as soon as the racks to ac-commodate
the bikes arrive and are installed. Another bit of progress that has required some
real patience and perseverance but has eventually come to pass.
