OF UTAH 96 99 2012- Playing in eight games at defensive end for the Lions as a junior, Dago recorded three tackles, half a tackle for a loss of two yards and a quarterback hurry on the year. Made two tackles in season finale at home against Pittsburg State where he also recorded his TFL. Forced a quarterback hurry against Northwest Missouri. Prior to Southern - The older brother of current Lion Gino Dago, Eric redshirted at Utah and will have two seasons left of eligibility at Southern. A native of Houston, Dago prepped at Westside High School where he was a four-year starter. He was an All-District selection and labeled as one of the Houston Area Top 100 players, while being named the team captain and Defensive MVP. As a senior, he recorded 73 tackles, seven sacks and added a fumble recovery. Personal - He is the son of Cris Orzabal and Deadra Dago Orzabal and is undecided on his major at Southern. BEAUMONT, TEXAS BLINN JC 2012 - Playing in all 11 games for the Lions as a junior, Varol started the final six games of the year at defensive end where he finished the year with 11 tackles, four solo, one tackle for a loss, two quarterback hurries and a pass break-up. Had a career-high three tackles against Northwest Missouri while recording a tackle for loss in the Lions home opening win over Northeastern State. Made three PAT’s in the Lions homecoming win over South Dakota School of Mines. Prior to Southern - Varol transfers to Southern after two years at Division I Liberty University ... As a sophomore, Varol was the Big South Defensive Player of the Week in week one after recording seven tackles against NC State including three for a loss and one sack ... Finished the season with 27 tackles and helped lead the Liberty defense which ranked 31st in the NCAA in scoring defense and finish 32nd in the country in red zone defense and 38th in total defense ... as a freshman, he was a member of the Big South Presidential Honor Roll … saw playing time in five games … helped the Flames finish the season ranked No. 20 nationally in rushing defense … also led the Big South and ranked No. 17 in the country in total defense (309.18 yards allowed per game) and No. 24 in scoring defense (20.81 points per allowed game) ... He redshirted in 2009.
