Returning Squadmembers returning squadmembers CHRIS WILLIAMS DL 6-3 281 SO. NEW ORLEANS, LA. BROTHER MARTIN HS 91 2012- Williams appeared in three games on the defensive line as a true freshman recording two tackles, one solo, on the year with both stops coming in Southern’s homecoming victory over South Dakota School of Mines. Prior to Southern - Williams played at Brother Martin High School for coach Mark Bonis, helping the team to a 8-4 record this past season … named one of the Top 100 players by LA Magazine … A two-year starter, Williams was a mainstay on the defensive line, recording 43 tackles, five sacks, five quarterback hurries and seven tackles for a loss … he also played in the Lake Ponchartrain All-State Game. BRENNEN NORA DL 6-5 250 JR. DESTREHAN, LA. NICHOLLS STATE 90 2012 - Playing in seven games on the defensive line as a junior, Nora totaled ten tackles on the year, including six solo stops. Accumulated two and half tackles for loss, including a pair for a loss of two yards at home against Northwest Missouri. Had a quarterback hurry in the Lions’ homecoming win over South Dakota School of Mines. Prior to Southern - A native of Destrehan, Louisiana, Nora started in 11 games as a true freshman at Nicholls St. in 2009. That season he had 12 tackles, seven solo, including 2.5 for a loss of ten yards. He will be a junior at Southern after sitting out the past two seasons. High School - Nora helped Destrehan High School to back-to-back state championships. He was part of one of the best defensive lines in the state, helping the team to a 29-0 record over two seasons and played in the Bayou Bowl as a senior. He recorded 63 tackles that season with nine coming for a loss and eight sacks. Presonal - The son of Brennan and Patrice Nora, Brennan is an education major at Southern. RYON PHILLIPS DE 6-2 240 JR. ROYSE CITY, TEXAS ROYSE CITY HS 94 2012 - An All-MIAA honorable mention, Phillips started all 11 games at defensive end for Southern as a sophomore finishing tied for seventh in total tackles with 32 tackles, including 16 solo, 9.5 tackles for a loss of 52 yards, four sacks, nine quarterback hurries and one pass break-up. Recorded at least one tackle in every game, Phillips finished with a season-high five stops twice in the season-opener against Central Oklahoma and season finale against Pittsburg State. Recorded at least a half a tackle or more for loss in 8 of the Lions’ 11 games recording two tackles for loss against Northeastern State and Northwest Missouri. Recovered a fumble against UCO and recorded a season-high three quarterback hurries against the RiverHawks. 2011- Phillips appeared in all 10 games for MSSU, starting 6, where he totaled 31 tackles (21 solo), 15.5 for loss, 6 sacks, 2 pass breakups and 1 forced fumble. Had a season-high 8 tackles, including 5.0 for loss (24 yards) and 3 sacks in a 24-17 win over Truman State.
