JOSEPH, Mo. – The 8th ranked Missouri Western football team used 28 unanswered points opening up a 35-7 lead late in the third which helped them to a 38-14 victory against MIAA newcomer Nebraska-Kearney. Quarterback Travis Partridge threw a career high four touchdowns and rushed for another helping MWSU to its fourth 3-0 start under Head Coach Jerry Partridge. The Griffons improve to 2-0 in MIAA play. Missouri Western finished the night with 549 yards of total offense with 351 coming on the ground. Michael Hill finished with 160 yards on 24 carries and now needs just 57 to become Missouri Western’s all-time leading rusher. He also needs just 10 carries to become the Griffons all-time leader in carries. Partridge completed 15-of-26 passes for 198 yards and four touchdowns. Tyron Crockom had 46 yards on four catches while Kyle Knox had 70 yards on three catches. The Griffons had four players with seven tackles (David Bass, Jordan Nicholas, Ben Pister and Austin Baska). Bass had three unassisted tackles and four assisted. The senior running back became Missouri Western’s all-time rushing leader and carries leader as the Griffons defeated Fort Hays 21-3 at Lewis Field Stadium. Hill finished with 26 carries for 198 yards to pace 7th-ranked MWSU (4-0, 3-0 MIAA) to its first road win of the season. He became the program’s all-time leading rusher with a 19-yard run in the second quarter, surpassing Tony Williams’ record of 3,396. Hill surpassed Thomas Hodges’ career carries mark (693) with a 56-yard run to begin the third quarter. Junior quarterback Travis Partridge celebrated his 22nd birthday by going 13-24 for 163 yards and two touchdowns with one interception through the air, and rushing for 23 yards and adding a score on the ground. The Missouri Western defense held Hays to 270 yards of offense. The 3rd time under Partridge that the Griffons have opened up the season 4-0 (2009, 2010 & 2012). The second time under Partridge that Missouri Western has went 3-0 in MIAA play to start the season. 2000 was the last time. The Griffons have gone 4-0 or better to start the season 7 different times in school history. The best start in history was in 1981 when they opened up 7-0.
