A town rich in history - famous for being the place where the Pony Express began and Jesse James met his demise - St. Joseph is an exciting city, offering first-rate attractions, upscale shopping and fine dining. The famous Overland Mail service began here on April 3, 1860. The stateof the-art exhibit at the Pony Express National Museum illustrates the need, creation, operation and termination of the Pony Express. House where outlaw Jesse James was shot and killed. Exhibits include artifacts from Jesse’s grave during the 1995 exhumation which showed a 99.7% certainty that it was Jesse who was shot in St. Joseph in 1882. Trails West! is a fun-filled weekend of entertainment in the St. Joseph downtown area, which takes place every August. St. Joseph’s climate is warm during the summer when temperatures tend to be in the 80s and coldest during winter when temperatures tend to be in the 30s. The annual average precipitation in St. Joseph is 35.24 inches. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year.
