Joel Beard begins his second year on the Griffon football staff. He serves as quarterbacks coach. Beard came to Missouri Western from Southeast Missouri State where he coached wide receivers and served as recruiting coordinator from 2011-2013. In 2013, Beard coached honorable mention All-MIAA selection Travis Partridge. Partridge finished the season with a 130.1 pass efficiency, completing 54.8-percent (172-314) of his passes. He threw for 2.206 yards and 21 touchdowns. Partridge also rushed for 530 yards and 10 touchdowns. Beard has 12 years of coaching experience at the Division I, II and III levels, as well as the high school level. , Beard was previously the head coach at Minnesota State University-Moorhead. He was named to that position after working as the Dragons offensive coordinator for three seasons and interim head coach for the final five games of the 2009 campaign. A participant of the 2006 NCAA Football Coaches Academy, Beard was appointed wide receivers coach at MSU-Moorhead in March of 2007 and was promoted to offensive coordinator by the start of the season. He began his coaching career as head coach at Southwestern High School in Hazel Green, Wisconsin for the 2000 and 2001 seasons. While at SHS, Beard helped the program achieve single-game records for passing yards and individual total offense. Beard spent the 2002 season as wide receivers coach at his alma mater, UW-Stout. The following year, Beard coached the wide receivers at Franklin High School. After that, he spent three years as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks/ running backs coach at Nicolet High School. During his college days, Beard was a two-sport athlete at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where he played football and basketball. He lettered four years in basketball and was a member of two national championship teams coached by current University of Wisconsin Head Coach Bo Ryan. On the gridiron, Beard played quarterback and established single-season passing records in attempts, completions and yards gained during his senior year. Beard obtained a degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and a master’s degree in education leadership from American Intercontinental University.
