A starter as a junior, Whiteis has lettered in both his sophomore and junior seasons with his final year yet to be played ... as a junior, he was an All-Tri Lakes team member, a first team All-Conference pick and an All- District selection, as well .... This past season he helped the Pirates to a conference championship ... he also holds the school record for hits in a game with five. A four-year starter at catcher for the Rebels, he is a team captain ... He was named an All-Conference pick as a junior with his senior year still ahead of him. Personal - The son of Michael and Debra Smith, Matt plans to major in Kinesiology at Southern. 20 • Axel Johnson • INF/OF 6-3• 200 • L/L • Junior • Tulsa, Okla./Texas Christian Prior to Southern - Axel is originally from Tulsa, OK and has spent the last three seasons at TCU. Over the past two seasons Axel has appeared in 26 games and made 1 start. Axel had a career .125 AVG with a .192 OBP, and also made 2 appearances on the mound as a freshman. He prepped at Bishop Kelly High School where he was an All-Metro selection as a senior hitting .411 with 11 home runs.
