POSTSEASON RECORDS REVIEW OPPONENTS MEAC PIRATES COACHES PREVIEW HAMPTON pirate asistant coaches Ataveus Cash Wide receivers coach Former Hampton University quarterback and NFL player Ataveus Cash has returned to his alma mater, and he is in his first season as wide receivers coach under head coach Donovan Rose. During his career at Hampton, Cash passed for 2,634 yards – the ninth-highest career total in program history. His 195 career completions are also the ninthmost in program history, and he threw 16 career touchdown passes – the 10th-highest total in program history. In 2000, Cash threw for 1,501 yards and a career-high nine touchdowns. He was a part of the 1997 Pirates squad that went 10-2 and won the MEAC title and SBN Black College National Championship. Cash was also on the 1998 MEAC championship squad, as well as Pirates track & field squads t hat won MEAC both the 1999 indoor and outdoor MEAC titles. After graduating from Hampton in 2001 with a B.S. in therapeutic recreation, Cash signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent. After time with the Jets, Cash played for the New York Giants, and he also spent time during in his NFL career with the Washington Redskins as a wide receiver, kick returner, and punt returner. Cash also played for the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe, winning the World Bowl in 2005. Cash, a native of Washington, D.C., was an All-American quarterback at Francis L. Cardozo Senior High School. He is also the CEO and founder of The Ataveus Cash Legacy Foundation (ACLF), an organization which promotes academic excellence and higher education for youth in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and other economically disadvantaged communities nationwide. Cash believes “it takes a village to raise a child” and that “giving to the less fortunate is the same blessing that the fortunate have already received.” Brandon Thompson Graduate Assistant/Quality Control Coach Brandon Thompson is in his third year with the Hampton University football program, and his second as a graduate assistant and quality control coach. He works primarily with the Pirates offensive line, while also assisting with the team’s video coordination. Thompson was a student assistant last year for the Pirates. Prior to coming to Hampton, Thompson coached at two high schools; he served as a wide receivers coach for Brunswick (Va.) High School, where he also helped coaching the defensive backs, and he also served as wide receivers coach for a season at Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, Va. The top three receivers at Brunswick that season earned All-Peninsula District honors and went on to play college football. Thompson graduated from Hampton in 2011with a degree in health and physical education. He is currently pursuing a graduate degree in counseling. 50 2013 Hampton Football hamptonpirates.com
