The College of Arts and Sciences was reconstituted on February 1st 2008 and it is the largest academic unit at the university, consisting of over 220 faculty and 80% of all declared majors at FSU. The College includes the Departments of Natural Science, Performing and Fine Arts, Nursing, English and Foreign Languages, Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Math and Computer Science, and Government and History, as well and the Math and Science Education Center, Air Force ROTC, Army ROTC, and Special Programs. Our College leads the way at Fayetteville State University in online degree programs and dual enrollment agreements with North Carolina Community Colleges. All of us in CAS take great pride in fully embracing the student-focused mission at FSU. We have a number of vibrant and expanding programs, on the cutting edge of technology and teaching strategies. Our plan is to continue to develop new programs, which best serve the needs of our students and the people of southeastern North Carolina. We want to make a high-quality college education more accessible through such efforts as dual enrollment programs and articulation agreements with North Carolina Community Colleges and the expansion of our course offerings online and through distance learning. SCHOOL OF EDUCATION Welcome to the School of Education at Fayetteville State University, where we have maintained continued accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) since 1954. If fact, the university began its proud history as a teacher’s college. Our commitment is to prepare highly qualifi ed teachers and other school personnel through the development, administration, supervision, and evaluation of the programs we offer. The School of Education is home to four departments: Educational Leadership; Elementary Education; Health, Physical Education, and Human Services; and Middle Grades, Secondary, and Special Education. The 13 BS, 10 M. Ed., the MSA, and the Ed. D programs offered in these departments are designed to prepare professionals who are scholars and facilitators of learning. All teacher education programs are approved by the North Carolina State Board of Education. The School enjoys a proud heritage of preparing professionals who are sensitive and responsive to the
