3 Media Information Thank you for your interest in Carson-Newman Football. The Carson-Newman Athletic Communications Office has produced the 2014 football guide to aid you in your coverage of the Eagles. If you have questions, comments or concerns, contact a representative of the staff. We look forward to working with you through the 2014 season. Entrance All media members are asked to enter Burke- Tarr Stadium through the South Gate. An elevator to the radio/TV booths and the writing press area will be available for use three hours before kickoff. Press area The main press box at Burke-Tarr Stadium is located atop the west stands and provides an unobstructed, enclosed vantage point for media personnel, both coaching staffs and visitors to the C-N president’s box. Restrooms are located within the press box and underneath the west stands. The press area is a professional workroom, as such, members of the media are expected to behave accordingly – there should be no cheering. Press Box Services Press kits are provided two hours prior to kickoff. Press kits include program, flip card, updated statistics for each team, conference statistics and game notes. Brief quarterly stats will be distributed at the end of the first, second and third quarters. A pregame meal will be served beginning 90 minutes before kickoff. Soft drinks and snacks will be available through the game. Stadium Press Box Tobacco Policy In accordance with the policies and procedures of Carson-Newman and the laws of the state of Tennessee, all areas of Burke- Tarr Stadium are a smoke-free environment. This does include the stadium press box. This rule includes all forms of tobacco products. The C-N Athletic Communications Office appreciates the media’s cooperation in adherence to this policy. Telephone and Internet Services Limited telephone service is available in the working press area. Media outlets are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to secure their own phone lines for use during Carson-Newman home games. Permission to broadcast from Burke-Tarr Stadium may be obtained through the Director of Athletic Communications. The official visiting radio network will be given priority use of the visiting radio booth. A phone line has been installed in the visiting booth; however, additional lines may be installed for a fee. Weekly Media Conference Carson-Newman head coach Ken Sparks will conduct a weekly press conference to discuss the previous week’s game, the upcoming opponent, injuries and other topics as they pertain to the Eagles football squad. The press conference will be held each Tuesday during the season at 2:30 p.m. in the KSAC Conference Room. The video of the press conference will be made available for use the same day on the Eagles’ YouTube channel - CarsonNewmanTV. Photographers Only accredited photographers on assignment from recognized media outlets will be issued sideline credentials for games or allowed at specific practices. In accordance with NCAA rules, no freelance photographers Jaycob Coleman and De’Andre Thomas talk with reporters at a postgame press conference will be admitted to the sidelines or press box photo deck. All photographers must have an armband (obtained at the media will call on game day) and a media pass to shoot inside Burke-Tarr Stadium. NCAA rules limit shooting to outside the restraining dotted line enclosing the playing field and outside the 25-yard lines (the team areas). CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 18 YEARS OLD ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THE SIDELINE AT ANY TIME. Interviews Every effort will be made by the Carson-Newman Athletic Communications Office to fulfill player interview requests during the week. There will be several opportunities during the week for members of the media to interview football players and coaches. Players will be available to the media in the 15 minutes before and after weekday practices. Players will return phone calls to out of town media following Tuesday practices. Player phone numbers will not be released. Media outlets will not be granted interviews prior to, or during a game. Players will not be asked to miss classes, study halls, practices, meals or medical treatments in order to participate in an interview. To schedule interviews, contact the Carson-Newman Athletic Communications Office at 865-471-3513. Post Game Policy Carson-Newman’s locker room is closed. Media in the press box will be asked to submit a list of player requests to the athletic communications staff at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Requested players will be available in the designated interview room following coach Ken Sparks’ postgame press conference. Football Practice Football practice is usually open to members of the media. In the event that practice is closed, the Carson-Newman Athletic Communications Office will provide advanced notice. Television and still photographers are welcome to shoot practice with advanced approval from the athletic communications office.
