2014-15 Carson-Newman Men’s Basketball Media Guide 20 22 - Ryan Jones Nickname: Lil Man Height: 5-11 Weight: 175 Year: Freshman Hometown: Murfreesboro, Tenn. High School: Siegel Position: G Major: Undecided High School: A 5-11 point guard and high school teammate of Clark. Together, they helped Siegel to a 61-8 record in their final two seasons. Their junior year, the duo helped the Stars to a final four appearance. Jones and Clark guided Siegel to the Elite Eight as seniors. Jones scored 1,151 points in his career while averaging a team-best 17.36 points and 7.9 boards a game in his senior season. Jones is a two-time All-District 7-AAA, All-Region 4-AAA and All-State honoree. He was the district and region MVP in his senior year. Much like Clark, he earned all-state tournament honors his junior year. Personal: He is the son of Chelsie Jones and is undecided on a major at C-N. His nickname is Lil Man. 35 - Taylor Hawkins Height: 6-3 Weight: 215 Year: Freshman Hometown: Madisonville, Tenn. High School: Sequoyah Position: G Major: Health Science High School: A 6-3, 215-pound guard. In his junior season playing for Daniel Curtis at Sequoyah High School, Hawkins averaged 19.4 points and 8.2 rebounds. He’s poured in 17 points and 7.5 boards a game in his senior year. He’s a three-time all-district and all-Monroe County selection and earned All-District Five tournament team and Tennessee Preps All-Region his junior and senior season. Finished his high school career with 1,234 career points and 651 career rebounds. Personal: The son of Allen and Vicki Hawkins, Taylor has carried a 3.6 GPA through high school and plans to study health science at Carson- Newman. 21 - Mason Bates Height: 6-4 Weight: 200 Year: Freshman Hometown: Cookeville, Tenn. High School: Cookeville Position: G Major: Education High School: A 6-4, 200-pound guard, averaged 14 points, 7.0 boards and 4.8 assists in his senior season for the Cavaliers. He canned 50 percent of his shots and 36 percent of his threes his senior year. He earned All-Discrict accolades while dishing out 100 assists. Was also an All-Region selection and BCAT East/West All Star Game participan. Cookeville earned a regular season district championship his senior year. As a junior, he earned Watertown Christ-mas Classic honors and won the Newcomer of the Year award for the league. He helped Cookeville to a district regular season and tournament champion-ship and helped Cheatham County to a regional title in his junior season. Personal: Bates is a member of the Beta Club and a National Science and Bible award winner. He’s the son of Lee and Barbara Bates. His sister, Destinee played basketball for Tusculum and his cousin Tyler Jacquess played basketball for Tennessee Wesleyan. Bates plans to major in education.
