4. Bullpens: Batted or thrown balls entering either bullpen are in play. Book rules apply. 5. Tarp: If ball bounces off tarp, it is in play. If ball lodges in tarp, it is dead and book rules apply. Players may lean on tarp, but cannot elevate themselves to make a play. 6. Outfield fence: The batter’s eye and left field second tier billboard signs are recessed. Any ball which hits them is a home run. The second tier of billboard signs in right field is stacked on top of the lower level. Any ball hit against it is in play. CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium - Cedar Rapids, IA 1. Behind home plate: If a ball lodges between bottom of the screen and concrete facing, Midwest League 2018 63 or in the padding around the entry door, it is dead. 2. Dugouts: A ball bouncing off the metal screens or concrete facings in front of the dugouts and photographer pits is in play. A ball lodging under the fence is dead. Players may stand on the top concrete step of the dugout to catch a ball. A ball thrown into the dugouts or pits is dead. Players may carry the ball into, but cannot throw from, the dugouts or pits. 3. Tarp: If a ball rolls into, under, or behind the tarp it is dead. Balls deflecting off the tarp are in play. Players may lean on the tarp to make a catch. They may not elevate themselves on the tarp to make a catch. The tarp is not considered a part of the bullpen. No players may sit on top of the tarp while the game is in progress. 4. Bullpens: Balls hit into the bullpens are in play. No benches or chairs are allowed in the bullpen areas. 5. Outfield: The ball must carry over the wall to be a home run. Balls hitting on top of the fence and bouncing over are home runs. Balls hitting on top of the fence and deflecting back into the field are in play. Batted balls lodging between or beneath pads are dead and automatic doubles. Thrown balls lodging between or beneath pads are dead. 6. Left field: In the portion of the 15-foot high wall that angles back toward the 8-foot wall; if a ball deflects off the 15-foot high wall over the 8-foot wall it is a ground rule double. If a ball strikes the wooden deck area ABOVE the yellow line over the 8-foot wall OR to the right of the vertical yellow line along the 15-foot high wall, it is a home run. Balls deflecting off the Tri- Vision advertising signs beyond the 8-foot wall back into the field of play are home runs. 7. Center field: Balls hitting the batter’s eye, flagpole or scoreboard that deflect back into the field of play are home runs. 8. Right field: Balls deflecting off the Ribbon Board and Tri-Vision advertising signs beyond the 8-foot wall back into the field of play are home runs. 9. Any thrown ball that hits the extended netting over the dugouts and lands in a playing area, the ball is live. If a ball hits the netting and drops into the dugout, the ball is dead. CLINTON LUMBERKINGS Ashford University Field- Clinton, IA 1. Fence behind home plate: If ball hits the break point between stadium roof and fence, it is dead. 2. Dugouts: If the ball hits the netting located above the dugouts, it is dead. The perimeter facing of the dugouts is dead. Both feet need to be on the first step of the front lip to be playable. If the ball hits the lip and goes into the dugout, it is dead. 3. Tarp: If ball bounces off tarp, it is in play. If ball is lodged in the tarp, it is dead. A player can lean on the tarp with both feet on the ground, no elevation. 4. Right field: If the ball hits any upper row fence sign - it is a home run. 5. Left field: If the ball hits the scoreboard, it is a home run. 6. Bat Boy Area Located Outside of the Dugout: In each corner closest to home plate – there is a portable protective screen that sits in front of the bat boy’s seat. If the ball hits the front of the net – it is a live ball. If the ball goes behind the screen it is a dead ball. DAYTON DRAGONS Fifth Third Field - Dayton, OH 1.
