| The USNA Alumni Association & Foundation’s Cedar Tree Gets Final Shine |
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. At least that is the case outside Ogle Hall, U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association & Foundation’s headquarters on College Avenue. The 70-foot deodora cedar tree that adorns the front lawn of the house was lit on 29 November in front of invited guests and local residents. The tree lighting has been an ongoing tradition for more than 60 years! In fact, during the 1960s, someone had to climb the tree and place the strings of lights around it. Nowadays, we are fortunate to have a company with a cherry picker place the 1,300-feet of blue and gold lights around the giant cedar. The process takes about 13 hours (including light prep). The USNA AA&F tree lighting has been a community favorite and one everyone looks forward to every year to kick off the season. |
