Coils, which are often another part of the outside unit, cool the air passing through it with a little bit of refrigerant. Pro tip - Make sure you check your coils at least once a year. You might need to inspect your refrigerant level and filter levels if the coils freeze.

EER is the Energy Efficiency Ratio based on a 35 °C (95 °F) outdoor temperature. To more accurately describe the performance of air conditioning equipment over a typical cooling season a modified version of the EER, the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER), or in Europe the ESEER, is used. SEER ratings are based on seasonal temperature averages instead of a constant 35 °C (95 °F) outdoor temperature. The current industry minimum SEER rating is 14 SEER. Engineers have pointed out some areas where efficiency of the existing hardware could be improved. For example, the fan blades used to move the air are usually stamped from sheet metal, an economical method of manufacture, but as a result they are not aerodynamically efficient. A well-designed blade could reduce the electrical power required to move the air by a third.

Comfort is next. The air is sent to either be heated or cooled to remove excess humidity. The air is then directed into the house once it has been cleaned, freshened, and is at a comfortable temperature. This means that central systems move through a network ducts and registers from one room to another. This is often done for other systems.

We've got everything you need to heat and cool your home, from air coolers and baseboard heaters to floor registers and HVAC ducting to accessories like duct tape and accessories to duct tape, and even floor registers.

A standard air conditioner requires 20 British thermal unit (Btu), for every square foot of living space. This is based on only the area. You should also consider the room's height, location, shading, and size when choosing an air conditioner. A filter that is easy to clean, has intuitive controls and can adjust the thermostat. It should also have a built in timer. According to the DOE replacing an older unit with an EER rating 5 can reduce your energy costs by half.

Many people today opt for ductless minisplit systems. They can be installed by anyone who is skilled in DIY. According to the U.S. Department of Energy these systems can cost between $1,500 and $2,000 per ton.

Newer systems today provide many more options, such as variable fan speeds and multiple stages of heating and cooling.

Your furnace is the heartbeat of your home's heating system. But furnaces don't come in one size. Heating options are endless for homeowners. Some are better suited to cold climates than other.

Zoned HVAC systems can heat or cool individual areas of your home by controlling zone valves or zone dampers inside the vents or ductwork, which selectively block the flow of air. Zoned systems can save you energy and money by only heating or cooling certain areas when you need it.

Contrary to popular belief: Air conditioning doesn't actually blow cool inside; it takes out the warmer air.

Ground source, or geothermal, heat pumps are similar to ordinary heat pumps, but instead of transferring heat to or from outside air, they rely on the stable, even temperature of the earth to provide heating and air conditioning. Many regions experience seasonal temperature extremes, which would require large-capacity heating and cooling equipment to heat or cool buildings. For example, a conventional heat pump system used to heat a building in Montana's −57 °C (−70 °F) low temperature or cool a building in the highest temperature ever recorded in the US—57 °C (134 °F) in Death Valley, California, in 1913 would require a large amount of energy due to the extreme difference between inside and outside air temperatures. A metre below the earth's surface, however, the ground remains at a relatively constant temperature. Utilizing this large source of relatively moderate temperature earth, a heating or cooling system's capacity can often be significantly reduced. Although ground temperatures vary according to latitude, at 1.8 metres (6 ft) underground, temperatures generally only range from 7 to 24 °C (45 to 75 °F).

HVAC is an acronym for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. The heating process increases the temperature of your home’s air, bringing it to a warmer level during cold winter months. The process of ventilation constantly exchanges indoor air with air from outside, providing healthy air quality inside your home. In warmer months, air conditioning cools the air brought in from outside and removes the humidity to maintain a comfortable and safe temperature.

Richmond (/ˈrɪmənd/) is the capital city of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. It is the center of the Richmond Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Greater Richmond Region. Richmond was incorporated in 1742 and has been an independent city since 1871. At the 2010 census, the city's population was 204,214;[6] in 2020, the population had grown to 226,610,[6] making Richmond the fourth-most populous city in Virginia. The Richmond Metropolitan Area has a population of 1,260,029, the third-most populous metro in the state.

Richmond is at the fall line of the James River, 44 mi (71 km) west of Williamsburg, 66 mi (106 km) east of Charlottesville, 91 mi (146 km) east of Lynchburg and 92 mi (148 km) south of Washington, D.C. Surrounded by Henrico and Chesterfield counties, the city is at the intersections of Interstate 95 and Interstate 64 and encircled by Interstate 295Virginia State Route 150 and Virginia State Route 288. Major suburbs include Midlothian to the southwest, Chesterfield to the south, Varina to the southeast, Sandston to the east, Glen Allen to the north and west, Short Pump to the west and Mechanicsville to the northeast.[7][8]

The site of Richmond had been an important village of the Powhatan Confederacy, and was briefly settled by English colonists from Jamestown from 1609 to 1611. The present city of Richmond was founded in 1737. It became the capital of the Colony and Dominion of Virginia in 1780, replacing Williamsburg. During the Revolutionary War period, several notable events occurred in the city, including Patrick Henry's "Give me liberty, or give me death!" speech in 1775 at St. John's Church, and the passage of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom written by Thomas Jefferson. During the American Civil War, Richmond was the capital of the Confederacy. It entered the 20th century with one of the world's first successful electric streetcar systems. The Jackson Ward neighborhood is a traditional hub of African-American commerce and culture.

Richmond's economy is primarily driven by law, finance, and government, with federal, state, and local governmental agencies, as well as notable legal and banking firms in the downtown area. The city is home to both a U.S. Court of Appeals, one of 13 such courts, and a Federal Reserve Bank, one of 12 such banks. There are several Fortune 500 companies headquartered in the city including: Dominion EnergyWestRockPerformance Food GroupCarMax, ARKO, and Altria with others, such as Markel, in the metropolitan area.[9][10][11]
