Granted, if you’re an active day trader and want access to futures, options, and currencies, go with Interactive Brokers over M1. Now let’s briefly address Robinhood. In short, I think the platform may not even have a future after recent events.

Interactive Brokers offers a Pro tier with per-share pricing and a Lite tier with commission-free trading on stocks and ETFs. Either way, you get access to its top trading platform, and you’ll also get discounts if you’re trading significant volume.
There can be a huge disparity in the level of customer service your chosen trading platform offers. For example, some providers only allow you to obtain assistance via email or an online support ticket. These platforms should be avoided, as it can often take days to receive a reply.

As a direct access broker, customer orders can be routed to over 100 destinations, including exchanges, market makers and dark pools. Orders can be configured and executed efficiently with keyboard shortcut hot keys. Charts are also optimized for speed.
One area where Cobra Trading stands out is in making it easy to short sell low priced securities and penny stocks. Easy to Borrow (ETB) lists are regularly updated by brokerage firms and made up of highly liquid stocks that can be sold short immediately. However, some stocks favored by day traders are not so readily available for short selling. These are often small cap or penny stocks that are attractive in part because they are highly volatile.

For those of you with little knowledge of the financial markets, there is also the Fidelity Learning Center. When it comes to fees, stocks, ETFs, and options listed in the US can be traded commission-free, which is great.
Unfortunately, the Interactive Brokers interface is very bad and downright unintuitive and confusing, especially for a beginner investor. Interactive Brokers is definitely only suitable for sophisticated, seasoned investors and traders. Here’s their interface: IB’s customer service is also notoriously pretty awful. In fairness, if you’re an experienced trader, you may never actually need to contact Support.

If you’re a seasoned trader then you will know that the MetaTrader (MT) series is hugely popular. For those unaware, both MT4 and MT5 are third-party trading platforms that sit between you and your chosen brokerage site. Many traders opt for a broker that offers access to these platforms, as they come packed with advanced tools. Not all trading platforms offer support for MT4 and/or MT5, so you’ll need to check this out if this is something you are interested in.
Interactive Brokers, or IBKR, is for investors looking for efficient, professional-grade web and mobile platforms. It stands out in part for its range of investments, allowing options, futures, crypto and forex trading—most firms don’t support all four—in more than 150 global markets.

Margin can also be a source of credit with no credit check and no repayment schedule. You can borrow against your portfolio and use the margin loan to cover emergency expenses.
