It is possible to experience some discomfort, but not pain, during the procedure. The numbing lotion and local anesthesia may be used to treat deeper areas. We recommend that you visit the office within 24 hours to complete treatment. The treatment involves inserting an insulated needle in the fat pad or wrinkle to treat acne. Although it might not seem that way, we lose fat on the face, especially around the cheek area, as people age. Our faces lose fat, our skin sags, and the loss of facial volume forms laugh lines and other wrinkles.
In a Day Spa, treatments are typically provided by people certified in areas like therapeutic massage and cosmetology. A Med Spa is a hybrid between a Medical Aesthetic Clinic and a Day Spa that operates under the supervision of a highly trained and specialized Physician.
Dr. Margolin explains aging skin like a piece of paper. “If you take a piece of paper and fold it in different ways repeatedly for decades, the paper would have permanent creases. This is what happens to our skin!” Injectable treatments like BOTOX and JUVEDERM can temporarily reduce aging signs by relaxing facial muscles and filling in certain areas.

Medical spas, sometimes referred to as medi-spas or medspas, seek to combine some medical procedures normally performed in a doctor's office with the experience of a day spa. There is a particular focus on anti-aging treatments.
A med spa is a combination of an aesthetic medical center and a day spa that provides nonsurgical aesthetic medical services under the supervision of a licensed physician.
We get questions from potential patients who come to our Lenexa office for an aesthetic treatments because they want to look younger. We asked Dr. Margolin about his advice to patients who might have unrealistic expectations about aesthetic treatments. Dr. Margolin said, “I tell potential patients the truth: I am an M.D., not a magician. I understand that it’s natural for people to want to look their best. Everyone wants to look their best, so they feel their best. Aesthetic treatments like BOTOX can temporarily reduce lines and wrinkles but these treatments can’t make them look like they did in college or like their favorite supermodel.”
This treatment reduces the appearance of wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles, but it isn’t as dramatic as plastic surgery. But if a patient has an eyebrow crease or forehead lines, BOTOX can help. This treatment softens lines and prevents them from creasing your skin. But BOTOX can’t reduce lines and wrinkles caused by the loss of facial fullness. To remedy those issues, we use dermal fillers like JUVEDERM.
