Estero Bay Preserve State Park is a 10,000-acre (40 km2) Florida State Park located near Estero, between Fort Myers and Naples. It was Florida's first aquatic nature preserve. It spans 10 miles (16 kilometers) of Estero Bay and includes water, inlets, and islands. Fishing, boating, bicycling, canoeing, and wildlife viewing are among the activities available. Gopher tortoises, fiddler crabs, and bald eagles are among the park's species. The park is open year-round from 8:00 a.m. until dusk.

Near the Florida Power and Light easement, the original rail bed of the Seaboard Air Line Railway can be found. As developments to the north and south have isolated this area, it has been orphaned. The Seaboard Air Line Railway was previously one of two railroads serving southwest Florida, and it now serves as a hiking trail stop.

North Tamiami Trail

Although there appears to have been little thought of the potential damage to the Everglades by the roads and the Tamiami Canal, the Tamiami Trail was hailed a masterpiece of engineering in 1928. Both have operated as a dam, preventing water from flowing from Lake Okeechobee to Florida Bay at the peninsula's southern point. As a result, the Everglades—the "River of Grass"—has had its water flow drastically reduced over the years, wreaking havoc on the region's environment. To better regulate water flow, a couple canals were filled and new culverts were built under US 41 in the 1990s.

Sun Harvest Citrus

Sun Harvest Citrus

Robert Edsall, Sr. planted his first citrus grove near Vero Beach, Florida, in 1940, and the rest is history. The Indian River site has been designated as ideal for growing fruit with a distinct, extraordinarily sweet flavor profile. Robert's variety selecting diversity rapidly proven effective, and he handed the Edsall Groves legacy on to his son, Bobby, decades later. The groves are now managed by Robert's grandson, David McKenzie.

The business took on a new dimension in 1990, when the family decided to open a packinghouse and retail store in Fort Myers, Florida, to share the wonderful flavor of their citrus with the general public. As a result, Sandy McKenzie Nicely, Robert's granddaughter, is the driving force behind Sun Harvest Citrus.

Hammond Stadium

Hammond Stadium

Hammond Stadium is a baseball field in South Fort Myers, Florida, that is part of the CenturyLink Sports Complex. The stadium opened in 1991 and was renovated extensively in 2014 and 2015.

In the spring of 2015, the Minnesota Twins' spring training facility raised its seating capacity from 7,500 to 9,300.

The Florida State League's Class A Advanced affiliate, the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (then the Fort Myers Miracle), finished their 2014 season and FSL championship at JetBlue Park (the spring home of the Boston Red Sox, also in Fort Myers) in order to complete renovations in time for catchers and pitchers to report in 2015. Among other advantages for fans and players, the upgrades will enhance the amount of walking area, provide additional shaded spots for sunny gam, and extend the gift store.

The Gulf Coast League Twins, the Twins' Rookie League club, also play at the CenturyLink Sports Site, but not at Hammond Stadium. Instead, they play on fields across the complex.

The stadium is named after retired Lee County Deputy Administrator William H. Hammond Jr., who was key in getting the Lee County Sports Complex (the stadium's original name) built to lure the Twins away from their previous Spring home in Orlando. The outside facade of Hammond Stadium was created with Churchill Downs in mind. All of the parking rows have street signs honoring past Twins legends including Bert Blyleven, Kirby Puckett, and Kent Hrbek. A waterfall fountain is also located at the stadium's entrance.

John Yarbrough Linear Park

Since the 1920s, when the Iona drainage district created the Ten Mile Canal to regulate flooding in the area and transfer water to Estero Bay, the historic corridor where the John Yarbrough Linear Park runs has existed. Two train lines would run alongside the Ten Mile Canal corridor. In 1925, the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad erected lines on the canal's east side, which are now used by the Seminole Gulf Railway. A second railroad line, the Seaboard Air Line's All Florida Railway, operated on the west bank of the canal from 1926 to 1952. On the west side of the canal, portions of the route follow alongside the former Seaboard right of way.
