Controlling sound quality is not something I know much about, but it is very important. The problems with digital sound are often discussed – see the essay below by Joseph Plambeck.

And, as a friend said to me recently, 95% of video is audio, a reminder that what we hear is often more important than what we see, and that sound systems should receive the same attention that we give to monitors and projection equiptment.
