Early on in the show, when John Cena first joined CM Punk in
the ring, I actually had a lot of hope for this week's Monday Night Raw. I got even more excited when Cena snapped at
Punk, showing a rare bit of menace from the cuddliest WWE Superstar this side
of Brodus Clay (tell me you wouldn't want a hug from the Funkasaurus). WWE has
a real money feud for Cena whenever they want it, and it has nothing to do with
the Rock. Yes, Cena feuded with Punk last year, but that whole storyline ended in
a total clusterf*ck with the waters thoroughly muddied by Triple H, John
Laurinaitis, Kevin Nash, The Miz, R-Truth and whoever else was standing around
with nothing to do.
As much as I'd love it, it's crazy to sit around wishing for
WWE to turn Cena heel - it's not going to happen anytime soon for numerous
reasons. But there are a bunch of different ways to have Cena and Punk face one
another without turning WWE's top guy into a villain, especially since their
fanbases are generally speaking, pretty separate. Hopefully, once we're on the
other side of WrestleMania, WWE will concentrate on making money off these two
guys together.
