Darth Maul's appearance made him stand out immediately, but it was that double-bladed lightsaber that really made us go crazy with excitement. The Sith Lord used older schematics and became motivated to create the unique weapon in the comic book story "Nameless" in Star Wars Tales.
Still undergoing his Sith training, Maul was sent by Darth Sidious to kill Manka Silo'urmanka, a Jedi master. Maul tried to kill the Twi'lek with a surprise attack, but ended up getting whooped. What makes matters worse is the Jedi was armed with only a wooden stick. Maul saw the errors of his ways and created his new saberstaff. The Sith attacks yet again, allowing Silo'urmanka to do the same counter, but this time Maul surprises him by extending the second blade, killing his target. Live and learn.
