Checkmate, Metallo, Red Queens and Kandorians, oh my! Smallville's been throwing more villains at our black-clad Superguy than he knows what to do with! And with the recently announced renewal, there's no telling what other baddies are in store for Clark Kent's merry band of supermen in the season to come. This week's episode "Sacrifice" (writing credits include Jusin Hartley, the Green Arrow himself) focuses on the drama between Tess and Chloe trapped in Watchtower, but use your super-vision to take a gander at a few Kryptonian secrets from the final episodes of season nine!

- Breathe easy, super-fans, Smallville will indeed soar to season
ten! Whether or not the tenth season will prove to be the last for the
Man of Steel remains to be seen, but we do know that the show did
recieve a full 22-episode order. A superhuman task, given that The CW
had moved Smallville to the Friday night death slot. (E
Online)
- Chloe and Oliver's relationship might not be much more than a booty call to each other, but according to executive producer Brian Peterson their relationship will be "forced to the next step" in the season finale. And what of Green Arrow's famous comic-book relationship with the sultry siren Black Canary? "[Chloe and Oliver]'s relationship is still pretty fresh, and they're still trying to figure out how they feel about each other. So it feels premature to go there, but that's definitely a possibility for future episodes." (TV Guide)
- May 7th's "Hostage" will mark the return of Martha Kent (Annette O'Toole) with a very familiar new boyfriend: Perry White! Not seen since season three, Michael McKean (O'Toole's real-life husband) will be looking for a new job, now that the Editor-In-Chief position at the Daily Planet's become a revolving door. Check out the first look at what looks like a superhumanly awkward double date! (Ask Aussiello)
- Martha Kent and Perry White won't be the only familiar faces popping up
as Smallville ramps to the season finale. In order to take down
Zod and the Kandorians Clark is going to need help from the Justice
League and the Justice Society alike, enlisting Black Canary (Alaina
Huffman), Cyborg (Lee Thompson Young), The Martian Manhunter (Phil
Morris), Hawkman (Michael Shanks) and Star Girl (Britt Irvin), the
latter two not seen since the 2 hour "Absolute Justice" Smallville event.

- On this week's episode is titled "Persuasion." It is Valentine's Day and while Clark (Tom Welling) is out on a date
with Lois (Erica Durance), he unknowingly becomes infected by gemstone Kryptonite, which has magical wish-fulfilling properties. Clark
mentions to Lois that he wishes they had a more traditional
relationship, so Lois quits the Daily Planet, moves in with Clark and
starts planning their wedding. Still unaware
of his new power, Clark also casually tells Chloe (Allison Mack) he
wishes she would spend more time watching out for him, so an infected
Chloe takes his wish to heart and sets her sights on a new target -
Lois. (Kryptonsite)
- Next week, "Conspiracy." ZOD IS SHOT — Bernard Chisholm (guest star J.R. Bourne), a doctor who
died and was brought back to life by the Kandorians so they can
experiment on him, escapes and kidnaps some Kandorians in order to
prove aliens have invaded Earth. Bernard tries to get Lois (Erica
Durance) to write a story validating his claim, but when Lois refuses,
he kidnaps her too. In an effort to save his people, Zod (Callum
Blue) poses as a reporter from the Daily Planet and uncovers Bernard’s
secret lab. Clark (Tom Welling) arrives at the lab just in time to
see Zod get shot. (Kryptonsite)

- Clark meets Zatanna (guest star Serinda Swan) at a comic book convention, where she tells him her father charmed a copy of the comic book “Warrior Angel” and it holds magical powers. A young man named Stephen (guest star Carlo Marks) steals the comic book and develops super powers, transforming himself into "Warrior Angel" and saving Chloe (Allison Mack) from a horrible accident. Meanwhile, Lois (Erica Durance) becomes jealous of Clark’s relationship with Zatanna. (Kryptonsite)
- Apparently Lois’s jealousy will reach new extremes. There are even rumors that she may wind up in a suit herself. According to the rumors, the suit will be something very reminiscent of the Blue Blur’s garb. Cosplay, anyone? (Fancast)
- The Valetines-themed Febuary 19th episode will feature "Lois dancing in a wedding dress and a catfight between Chloe and Tess!" (Ask Ausiello)
