The voice acting in Skyrim is pretty solid, as characters' inflections, tone and even accents seem
consistent with whom they're portraying and what they're saying. The problem is
that in the world of the Elder Scrolls, people only have one of about 10
different voices. I understand that hiring different actors for every single
one of Skyrim's largely
interchangeable characters would be cost prohibitive, but even questgivers and
more important NPCs tend to be the creepy lady, the nice lady, the tough lady,
the gruff guy, the drunk guy or Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Over in Westeros, Game
of Thrones boasts a full cast with a different actor playing every single
character - not even Deadwood can
make that claim, folks. Guys like Sean Bean, World's Handsomest Dwarf Peter
Dinklage, the guy who looks like a young Mick Jagger and others give Game of Thrones a depth and complexity
that Skyrim just can't match, even if
it does feature cat-people.
