Chris: Juice's
story was gut-wrenching to watch this season. I really liked the fact that you
gave Juice some meaty stuff to do. When he walks into church at the end of the
finale, you see he's back. The weight has been lifted. I never expected him to
make it. Everyone episode I was like "Okay, Juice is going to die." And first
of all, thanks for not killing Juice. He was ultimately one of the rare bright
spots in an otherwise bleak season. Was it deliberate?
Kurt: First of
all, I love Theo to death. I love having the guy around, so I wasn't going to
get rid of him. But I also knew we were killing Piney in Episode 8 and that was
predetermined from the jump. I didn't know exactly what season that would
happen in, but I knew he and Clay would ultimately come to that. So the weight
of killing Juice in Episode 7 and Piney in 8 would have cheated both. I just
love the fact that Juice fucked up his own death. He uses a chain instead of a
fucking rope.
Chris: When I
watched that episode and you heard that thud, my wife was like "I couldn't
believe they killed Juice!" And I said "No they didn't, listen!" It was great.
Kurt: None of
that stuff sort of happens in a vacuum. The fact is, yes, the secret is buried
for now but he killed a member, he shot a member in the face, he ratted on the
club. There are people out there who have that information. You have the
character who is living with the emotional weight of that and he's clearly a
guy who does not compartmentalize well, unlike Clay.
Chris: He's an
emotional New Yorker.
Kurt: Yeah! And
there are people who have that information. I don't know if it'll come back to
haunt him next season, but you know, the same way the Luanne stuff came back to
haunt Bobby in Season 4. You know, that stuff is part of the mythology now, the
history of that character, so it can come back into play at any time.
