Epic Battle Scenes

Most genre films contain at least one big fight. Here are the eleven epic battle scenes that set the gold standard for everyone else.

We go to movies to see conflicts play out. Even the latest Katherine Heigl movie is probably structured around some problem that needs to get solved. Genre films typically solve these problems with violence, specifically badass battles. You may love Batman to death, but you probably don't want to watch him and Alfred sit around doing his taxes all night. In honor of this wonderful form of artistic expression, we've compiled our favorite battle scenes. Some are massive, some are more personal and quiet, but all are epic in scope.

The Corridor Battle

This epic battle from the amazing Korean film Oldboy is about as awesome as they get. Featuring one man with a hammer plowing through around twenty-five enemies in a crowded, narrow corridor, it's the film version of an old school side-scrolling beat 'em up. Amazingly, it's not even the best part of this film, though it's likely the most hilarious. It's so long and realistic, you get both tired and exhilarated just watching it.
