Day Watch

Release date: July 1, 2007

The Pitch:

The forces of Light and Dark continue their scuffle, with the fate of Moscow itself hanging in the balance.

Why You Need It:

More amazing action sequences and special effects versus even more storytelling incoherence - that's the true battle going on in this sequel to Night Watch. Director Timur Bekmambetov didn't necessarily grow as a director but rather just expanded, making an even bigger spectacle filled with the filmmaker's crazy ideas and eye-popping images. Again, plenty of excitement and energy to spare, so just sit back and let Day Watch assault you with its seething, beastly rage, even if it's never quite clear what the characters are so stressed out about - and stay tuned for two more eventual installments in the franchise, Dusk Watch and Last Watch.

Talent:

Timur Bekmambetov (director), Konstantin Khabenskiy, Mariya Poroshina, Vladimir Menshov, Galina Tyunina, Viktor Verzhbitskiy, Zhanna Friske, Dmitriy Martynov, Valeriy Zolotukhin.
