Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Release date: October 24, 1969

The Pitch:

Two members of the Wild Bunch flee to Bolivia when the law starts getting too close for comfort.

Why You Need It:

One of the greatest buddy movies of all time, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is also a brilliant revisionist Western, a playful postmodern romp that's as comfortable with its shootouts and robberies as it is with strange moments like Paul Newman riding a bicycle as "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" plays on the soundtrack. Newman and Redford are excellent together, and Katharine Ross holds her own as Sundance's lady, the lovely and feisty Etta Place. The final shot is the stuff of movie legend - the rest of the flick is pretty damn great, too.

Talent:

Talent: George Roy Hill (director), Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Katharine Ross, Strother Martin, Henry Jones, Jeff Corey, George Furth, Cloris Leachman, Ted Cassidy.
