All-American trucker Jack Burton gets roped into bizarre supernatural goings-on in Chinatown.
In many ways director John Carpenter's most personal film, Big Trouble in Little China is a swaggering, swashbuckling mess, a beloved cult classic from the second Carpenter ever thought it up. The film is clumsy and doesn't make any sense (at all, really), but it's done with such love and gusto that you're completely won over before too long. Kurt Russell is clearly having a blast as Jack Burton, a wisecracking truck-driving anti-hero that isn't quite as cranky as Snake Plissken, and the low-budget special effects are rather charming. Critics hated Big Trouble with a passion, but many fans consider this to be one of the quintessential Carpenter films.
